My favorite is the one were a reporter rides out onto a seemingly submerged City street on a rowboat, only for a couple of dudes to walk by behind her in rain boots showing the water is only a few inches deep. the NPC's didn't pick up on it before, and they won't now.
But the difference between now and then is that increasingly these days they don't really try to dress things up anymore. There was a skill and charm in most, not all cases back then that is increasingly absent these days. Soon it will be more difficult to not notice and it shifts from fake-out, easy to swallow propaganda to an exercise in humiliation as they ask people to accept the absurd.
