It's not uncommon at all. The conservative (e.g. GOP-like establishmentarian) conservative parties in many European countries are named People's or Popular. I had actually never made the connection to this before your comment.
It makes sense because you would use this term if you want to start a genuine populist movement.
They need not win, just like the UKIP never won. They just have to scare the CPC enough that they will lose seats because of the PPC to affect politics.
The UK is screwed big time. But they would have not have Brexit if it were not for UKIP, and would have stolen the Brexit vote if it were not for the (mega gay) Brexit Party.
Why is a non-Communist group calling itself the People's Party of Canada?

Because we've let the communists push the lie that they're for the people long enough.

One election every 3-5 years isn't enough to scare them straight. It didn't work on the Tories and it won't work on the CPC. They need to be replaced.

Here's hoping...
In the words of Canadians. Oh, that's gonna be a problem, eh?
We need to get rid of hairdo first then its PPC's time. A lib victory or worse a majority will destroy what's left of Canada.
I admire your optimism. But from what I have seen, the CPC is no better than Trudeau.
