Of course I was only aware of the narrative presented by the news media at the time, but it's interesting how much messed up stuff actually went on behind the scenes. Apparently a lot of scores were settled between the police and gangsters after law and order broke down and there was no federal oversight i.e. executions without trial.

Yep, the bridge which cops were sent to jail for was one of those cases.
I think Katrina is a good case study for what might happen in the future if America begins to balkanise as predicted.
