First you have a sane person surrounded by other sane people who don't buy into this bullshit.
Then you have sane person isolated and brainwashed through higher education, internet and opportunistic cultists.
The person deludes themselves into thinking they are like John Nada putting glasses for the first time.
Said person "confronts" their peers and tries to "enlighten" them about the "truth". Gets called a loony and is directed to the nearest psychiatrist (assuming there are any left in US).
The person refuses to believe that they drank koolaid and stubbornly stays on her new "mission". Be it partially because they want to avoid damage to credibility by admitting mistake or through childish pride.
Sounds believable.
