Perhaps I am completely delusional, but it seems like Siege continuously strays from its origins with more and more fantastical elements compared to the restrained abilities of the original operatives.
Somewhere I saw a comparison of a base operator and his bio and a new operator and her bio. Base operator wore heavy armor, gave out some balistic vests, and the most you got from his bio was "He has been in anti-terror for 14 years and wins French sharpshooter competitions."
The girl, on the other hand, has a sassy pose, dyed hair, her ability is to send out hacker drones and its like "Grace was born under the stars of saturn and named for her look of joy. On her 13th birthday she was the most special hacker child there ever was and everyone clapped" and this goes on for 4 times the length of the base operator's bio.
Basically yea the original operators and hell even most of the early dlc operators had some level of grounding in reality. Their actual gear would never see military use because in reality it would be way prone to failure but it was more realistic shit like bear traps and a mounted lmg with basic ballistic glass to protect the upper body now it’s all batshit like drones that create holographic clones of yourself or nanites that revive you.
I feel the same way. Alibi's holograms were obviously not something you can build in reality - even if you could project an image up into the air, that image could only be brighter and not darker than the wall behind it - but Iana has all the same problems while also adding the stupidity of a hologram that can operate independently of its projector, and transmit information back to Iana from that ephemeral image.
