Same was true with Antifachiste Aktion as the militant wing of a Stalinist party in the Weimar Republic during 1932-33 (Holodomor years). Same is true now, with modern Antifa serving as the militant wing of the DNC.
It is believed that without that predecessor militant wing, Hitler would have never created the SA and that there would be more political competition against both groups.
Took a class on nazi germany back in college. Apparently both the nazi's and the hardcore communists decided that each other wasn't the biggest threat, it was the moderates that were.
Moderates got hit by both of them hard, leading to the shit-show that followed.
