I was left back then, I think lots of us did care about civil liberties, and some lefties still do today, but their overall abandoning of them was what caused me to reconsider which parties stood for freedom, and which were the quasi bush sequel admins. I think youre points are good that 'liberalism' is not held by the left, not now, and not fully before, either.
