I am closer to city than rural, personally, but from what I've seen, no. Even here, the more "rural" feeling shops (gun stores, farm supply, building supply stores, etc.) just ignore it if they think they can get away with it, and out even just a bit from the cities, there's plenty of based signs and flags, and businesses again ignore it if they can get away with it, sometimes even smearing it in their faces.
A few more rural stores skirted the restrictions last time, when they started to loosen, saying that you have to wear a mask, but if you don't wear a mask, they'll assume you have a good reason.
That said, in my area, 98% of businesses comply, many even going so far last time as to hire what I call "gargoyles;" people whose sole job is to sit at the door and stop people who don't have masks. There's some resistance, but for the most part businesses and people want to be Good Citizens.
I'm really hoping it's going to be different this time. I hope people finally say enough. I don't plan to comply this time, but we'll see how that works. They'll literally kick people out.
So I did something similar over here in Oz (Qld, if anyone cares), except with the QR code "check in" shit we are all expected to do (it tracks your every move, so... I would consider it even worse than masks alone, personally!), and the, uhh, let's just say "Immigrant door gargoyle" threatened to call the cops on me, lololol...
And she probably would have, too.
Amazingly, this was at a fucking pancake restaurant, in a shopping mall catering for tourists. So I just promptly told her to get fucked and went to a based Tibetan joint down the road, who didn't give a flying fuck, and didn't even ASK me to "check in", let alone "demand it", lol...
Anyway, just thought I would offer that "insight", because it was sort of amusingly similar...
Also interesting: gargoyle was first-generation Chinese, vis à vis the Tibetans who weren't having any of that shit, lol. Though I suppose that's unsurprising, all things considered!!

Agreed, but even that is capitulation. This time I plan to just ignore them, and see how they'll respond.

Based Tibetans!
Seriously though, good story. It's nice to have positive stories, in this time of universal stupidity. Thanks for sharing.
