Regarding the title and first few paragraphs, it's the same in my country too. We have a ruling coalition that keeps doing absolute clown shit regarding Covid, then we have the mainstream opposition that approves every new emergency law and measure the ruling coalition puts up to a vote and just bitch on social media - and not because the measures are clearly destroying the nation and everyone in it, but because "the laws aren't well written" - and then we have the people who consistently get called fascists who are the only ones advocating for liberty. The libertarian to fascist pipeline definitely is real, it just doesn't work the way it's usually portrayed.
Yeah, that... Kind of perfectly describes Australia, in 2021 (i.e. right now), too...
I would say "How odd", but it's not really, is it?
We KNOW they are trying to outdo each other (Italy, France, Germany, the UK, Bidenistan, Aus, NZ, wherever you are if it isn't in that list, even bloody Peru and Chile), so the next, more important question to ask is uhh, why?
Why do they want/are they trying to outdo each other? Why does this seem to be the case everywhere?
That's what we need to know. Because, while I know people have spouted a whole bunch of theories, I haven't necessarily seen a completely compelling one, yet, but the answer certainly doesn't seem to be "fear" (of the virus, anyway)...

Oh look, Miss 4%.
If her votes went to Lega Nord, none of this would have happened. Spoiler candidate.
