It's worse than exit visas, in fact. We literally cannot, except in a very small set of circumstances, leave the country at all, now...

Vis à vis East Germany, for example, where they could at least travel to the rest of the Soviet sphere...

We can't even travel to fucking New Zealand (again), now...

The only real comparison, and I'm being 100% serious here, is North Korea. Or arguably Cuba at the height of Fidelismo.

Like, I don't want to exaggerate, but, at least on that one aspect, things are even worse here than you perhaps realise... :-/
