Japan society is a corpse taking its last few steps. Their birth rate is trash. Their traditionalist culture will cave very soon and begin the mass importing. The Japanese people will genocide themselves within 50 years.
Recently, I read Disunited Nations by Peter Zeihan, a geopolitical strategist. He suggests that much of Japan's need for workers can be taken care of with a few strategies:
De-sourcing: Manufacturing plants are built in the country you plan to sell in, employing their people to do that work, while you keep the high end jobs (engineering, executives, etc.) in your own country.
Outsource manufacturing to Southeast Asia and South America (which have a both growing populations and the resources they would need)
Investment in robotics to make the most of each Japanese worker.
I don't know if this solves all their problems, but it's enough for Zeihan's one word summary of Japan's future is "Jefe". Of course, he's also predicting that China is in a much worse position that most people think.
Investment in robotics to make the most of each Japanese worker? They're at least doing this much, even to the point the severely disabled are being employed on the regulars.
