Once you understand that basically every single person left of center is a Bolshevik, it makes sense. Of course they'll shoot the messenger. Hell, look up Stanislav Petrov. The Soviets gave him a dishonorable discharge for not launching nukes at a sensor glitch. He literally saved the world and they hung him out to dry.
