Bride kidnapping has even actual tradition in the places like North Caucasus. And of course it's been an extremely common theme in conflict between tribes and nations through all history, only recently it's frowned upon in the civilized world (so actions of likes of the Islamic State or all sorts of African warlords are considered barbaric).
