Sorry if this was discussed over the weekend when I was generally off the grid. I think this is a good forum for the discussion, at least:
Lately, subscribers to /r/NoNewNormal have been getting perma bans from a bunch of "default" / Popular subreddits, just for the mere fact of posting in NNN. The ban messages are a template, and all say the same thing. Here's one of the many I received just today:
You have been permanently banned from participating in r/starterpacks. You can still view and subscribe to r/starterpacks, but you won't be able to post or comment.
Note from the moderators:
You have been banned forparticipating in r/nonewnormal, which is known for being a disease vector to other subreddits and society.
This action was performed by a bot which does not check the context of your comment.
To be unbanned respond to this message with a promise to avoid that subreddit.
Any other response will be ignored and is consent for us to mute you.
If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team for r/starterpacks by replying to this message.
Reminder from the Reddit staff: If you use another account to circumvent this subreddit ban, that will be considered a violation of the Content Policy and can result in your account being suspended from the site as a whole.
Clearly the admins are on board with this.
I consider myself an extremely respectful person. I was active on T_D from 2015 and never even temp-banned from anywhere (even /r/politics, where I think I still have a net-positive rating). I fully subscribe to the idea that discussions today prevent confrontation later, and I'm doing whatever I can to have a dialogue with people.
But more and more, I find myself just simply pre-emptively banned from places for wrongthink.
It's just going to get worse from here, too.
Hah, no way. I was just on another forum, I opened a thread I haven't been reading for a while, and I saw a couple of people talking about these reddit autobans. I mentioned NNN posters being banned from a bunch of unrelated subs, and as an aside I remarked that I really hate the newfags who keep complaining about autobans in that sub.
Then, a while later, I came here and the first thing I saw was this post.
Please, everyone, I'm pleading with you with tears in my eyes, stop posting about your bans from shitty peddit subs. Literally nobody cares; literally everyone you're talking to has been banned as well. All of these subs are shit, because pretty much every sub on peddit is just pure shit, and especially the default ones.
Remember that Trump bust made of literal horseshit, as in "I spent at least an hour forming like 50 kilos of horse manure into a bad bust of the president, take that conservatards?" I'm pretty sure that originally showed up on r/pics, I even have a screenshot somewhere. That's how bad these subs are, it's a bunch of soy-infused manchildren playing with shit. It's not even very funny to watch most of the time.
This autoban stuff has been going on since early GG; half-KIA has had a message about being autobanned from r/offmychest and r/rape if you ever post there for the better part of a decade at this point. Yes, it happens; yes, it's tranny jannies powertripping; yes, it's against reddit sitewide rules; no, the admins won't stop raping children for long enough to at least try to fix it; no, you're not losing anything by getting banned; yes, peddit is a cancerous shithole. The site's fine if you just want to look at funny videos of kittens doing weird stuff, and a ban doesn't stop you from doing that, it only stops you from posting and commenting - and why would you want to engage in a conversation with the average redditor?
