I am on the other side of globe from there, but i can see how this gets significantly worse if you live in places with more volatile weather conditions.

It's actually a bit of pride in how different the weather can be. In the Northwest I can drive 400 miles and hit 6-7 different ecologies. There's even a line marking where the forest begins and the desert ends.
