The power of the one-two punch. She blamed COVID for her insanity. Not having COVID, just the thought of it out there, standing there menacingly.

And the Powers That Be do want you to be terrified of COVID, just standing there, menacingly, so it seems logical they're encourage the fear by lessening sentences associated with being terrified of the 'rona.
