That's not the light of civilisation being snuffed out, that's it stalling for a little while. It's hardly the Bronze Age collapse.
Well, if it comes to that, I suppose I'd better start getting at least a cursory knowledge about farming. However, human beings can learn, and as we are perhaps the most literate population in history we might well be able to pick up those skills.
That's if it comes to it, which as always with history isn't a certainty.
I think with sufficient motivation, it would be easier to survive now more than ever in human history.
We have more knowledge accessible to us than ever before. If there was some kind of collapse, the first thing intelligent people would do is try to re-establish communication with others.
And we have some knowledge and habits that literally weren't available to anyone in the past, like knowing to keep our living areas clean and free of pests like rodents. To keep trash and human feces far away from where we live to avoid contamination.
We know the importance of water purification in a way that past civilizations did not understand. So we automatically avoid the diseases and ailments that 99% of humans in history weren't able to avoid. We know about scurvy and how easy it is to prevent, as another example.
So while it would be a huge shock and challenge for people, and I'm sure many would die, we would still be better able to handle survival than anyone that came before.
What you're saying is 100% correct.
That's why I keep telling people to stock up on supplies, learn how to farm, learn how to hunt and take care of family (or teach them how to take care of themselves).
If anyone is actually serious about surviving what's coming down the pipeline you need to learn to live off the grid in its entirety. Start practicing now or otherwise you'll be caught in the snow without shoes.
