Want another "wtf?!" thing to look into? I read this from sources posted on a 4chan thread where they were making a lot of connections, so follow due diligence.
There's apparently a strong correlation to the spread of the myth of vampires in Europe with the population spread of Jews. For those that don't know, look into the actual reasons why Jews were kicked out of European locations (cities, states, etc.). It was due to abducting European children, torturing them, and drinking their blood, and when the Jewish community was confronted with this, attempting to find the missing children, they often defended the guilty suspects, or claim ignorance. There's other research showing that a large segment of the Ashkenazi Jewish population has a blood disorder (can't remember the name) that, get this, can be cured by drinking blood. Lastly, the cure for this blood disease exists, and it's in Israel. The last part was the thing that this post reminded me of.
Poland for centuries had the majority of all Jews in the entire world and any local vampire legends are rather from before this period (old Slavic lore).
