I cançt understand how people don't see that race-swapping is pretty racist against the race being swapped to.
Because they don't give a shit about racism. They just want to take your toys and feel powerful.
Its entirely obvious. How many black people actually give a shit about Neil Gaiman works? Probably a low number, but they (and their much bigger white coddlers) will gladly twist it knowing you do. So twisting it will make them feel powerful because it will ruin something of yours.
To be fair, the Sandman series probably has the largest woke female audience in comics. Race swapping major characters is pretty much on-brand here.
That bugs me too! Whiteness is being replaced yet a lot of people seem to be programed to only sympathize with how this effects nonwhites.
