One aspect of the pandemic that I haven't seen discussed anywhere is the generational component.
Boomers were most vulnerable to the virus while younger generations were more or less at zero risk. Yet we went ahead and locked down the world, putting future generations into decades of crushing debt, in order to protect the elderly boomers.
Now we have vaccines that present a very real risk to younger people, but the boomers are more than willing to sacrifice those young lives if it means a small percentage increase in the boomers' chances to live another six months.
How much of what has happened was a result of the monumental narcissism and self-absorption of the boomer generation? Would any previous generation have sacrificed the futures of their children and grandchildren in exchange for an extra 18 months of life?
