Metroid has a female character in a game with no dialogue
If only that were true. Other M was the last original Metroid game and it was chock full of dialogue so bad it literally sunk the franchise.
It was actually an interesting inversion in that the "gamer boys" were the most mad about how they turned her into a weak willed damsel in distress, and the games media/activists loved it for being a cutscene heavy movie game they could actually play for once.
Proving that actual "strong female characters" can be beloved and great times, they just need to actually be made well.
Before that Metroid Fusion had quite a few conversations (nothing like Other M of course) and I thought that was more than enough for a Metroid game. Certainly not "no dialogue".
Yeah Fusion was pushing it but worked because the rest of the game was still solid and the story it was telling was good. Prime 2 I think had the best balance of dialogue when it was used.
Then they fucked it up with Prime 3 and made a game so terrible it needed the Wii Gimmick to save it.
