This is the one left wing thing I still have of what remains of my leftist ideology, but my solution has never, ever been to FORCE laws into place to achieve it. Advocacy by the government should be done but not at the cost of the working and middle class. For example, what the far left is trying to do with the Green New Deal-esque measures of completely removing gas cars and replacing them with electric cars will not work. They're still too expensive for the average working or middle class person to get - especially ones who are living in apartments that are 40-50 years old with no infrastructure in place to charge them.
What I dislike about these leftists is that they always push for this shit at the cost of the poor - and if they "care" about the poor, they only focus on the ethnic minorities, even though there are a TON of poor white folks.
Nevermind global warming, the reason why I want to slowly get us off oil is to remove our dependence on fossil fuel. Fucking Biden diverted our drilling back to being dependent on the Middle East again when we spent a good FOUR YEARS with locally made gas and petroleum which kept gas prices low and create less of a burden on the lower and middle class.
Same thing goes for electricity. Right now "renewables" cost too damn much, are only accessible to the rich, and each renewable has some sort of downside to it. I am ok with going for renewables if we have a good plan to do it that doesn't hurt the poor in the process AND if we use nuclear power as a BRIDGE/STOPGAP that will allow us to get to the renewables in the future as tech continues to improve around it.
Nuclear Power should have a fixed number of years of operation with a gradual plan to replace its output with renewables in the future, but I am also aware of the limits of renewables, including the need for batteries at night and the potential damage stuff like windmills can do to birds.
The problem is leftists always do dumb shit to make the average working man's life more annoying - banning bags, banning untensils, straws, etc. They poke you with the little things so when they jab the giant bat up your ass you will be eventually numb to it.
All shit that only increases opposition to what they really want.
I've advocated that the only viable solution to Climate Change is free-markets and private property. Fundamentally there is an issue of pollution that is related to carbon emissions. If you want to reduce pollution, you have to make it such that people will respond to pollution rather than it being someone else's problem.
Do you want garbage in your water? No, go after the person up-stream. Sue him if need be. If you can't push past him, start cleaning the water yourself (there are many methods). Frankly, same goes with air pollution.
The Tragedy of the Commons guarantees pollution, so privatize the problem.
