I want the US to curtail immigration, but when I see these stories out of Europe I thank God we have Mexico and Cuba to our south and they have been a huge source of immigration the past 40 years.
Yeah, that’s my point - if the choice is 20 million from Somalia and around there or 20 million from Mexico and Cuba, I’ll gladly take the folks from Mexico and Cuba. I agree that our immigration policy has completely gutted certain industries and caused untold harm to large regions. But it’s even worse for Mexico. Mexico has basically lost two generations of its hardest working people to outbound immigration. Their government wants it to end because it is crushing them. Of course now there are huge waves from Central America.
I suspect as time passes the Mexican immigrants will be a bloc larger than people with German ancestry in the US, which is huge. There are stories about illegals or people under deportation orders committing crimes, but by and large I’d say the group is full of decent hard working people with very strong family values and religious beliefs and they will do well in the US.
Of course the elite class just wants them here to grow consumption, depress wages and hopefully vote reliably Democrat. Some of the most based guys I know are second generation Mexican guys. They hear these woe is me stories on the media and get pissed because they say “I went to shitty schools in bad neighborhoods and my parents didn’t speak a word of English but I still got out.” Makes it really hard to push the leftist “everything is so terrible” narrative.
The far left politicians want to pretend that Somali immigrants never age and never require a pension.
Meanwhile they vastly overestimate the chance of a Somali immigrant becoming a doctor or a lawyer.
