More accurately, anything that is/can be moderated that isn't specifically right wing will become left wing. A true free speech zone without any authority that can force the community down a certain path will become right wing. The issue is that the left are very pernicious about maneuvering themselves into positions of power so they can cram their views down on people.
People tend to self-segregate in locations where they think they fit in and don't want to spend all their time arguing with everyone else because they're the outsider.
It's the same reason major cities in the US have a Chinatown and Little Italy: people from China and Italy wanted to be among their own.
Leftists have "free speech" forums: reddit and twitter. They can say whatever they want, because whatever they want to say falls within the Overton window of the people running those platforms, and they don't want to say things that fall outside that window and would get them banned.
