I am wondering if we as a group would be ok with bans on regressive leftist hate speech and possibly other hate speech involving whites and men, as this has become a major issue?

When they were still fringe lunatics, they didn't have the power necessary to protect themselves from "unfair firing". If a strict no feminists policy was enacted everywhere at this time, they would have been slowed dramatically.
That may very well be. I generally think every sort of criminal receives undue lenience, and women more than men. That is because of the hare-brained belief that punishment should not be punishment but only a deterrent.

I don't disagree with that.
Fringe lunatics that can have your company delisted from the NASDAQ, have your payments in blocked by Mastercard and have your voice silenced by Google. They have way too much power to be considered anything less than a threat to society's very existence.
Back then, being a feminist was considered evil. They didn't have the propaganda media and had to hide behind "women's rights" instead of using their movement's true title.
