Reviewing "Repressive Tolerance" and other works by Herbert Marcuse, the quack who became America’s most influential thinker
He explained: not only was the material condition of the worker in modern capitalism insufficiently brutal to spur him to revolution, but technological advances coupled with expanded freedoms allowed even the lowliest employee to fully integrate into the “one-dimensional society,” a consumerist hell of mostly met material needs, “pleasure,” “fun,” and “socially permissible desirable satisfaction,” all of which “weakens the rationality of protest.”
In the advanced capitalist countries, the radicalization of the working classes is counteracted by a socially engineered arrest of consciousness, and by the development and satisfaction of needs which perpetuate the servitude of the exploited. A vested interest in the existing system is thus fostered in the instinctual structure of the exploited, and the rupture with the continuum of repression a necessary precondition of liberation – does not occur.
If people can keep their eye on the ball, and realize what will matter in 20 years time and what will not, that would be great. Even if you think being a TDS loony cannot be excused, Sam Harris is still very useful. Perhaps particularly useful because of his TDS, because he can then turn other people who are also TDS towards reason - or at least nudge them somewhat.
The left demands "be with us 100% of the time, or we anathematize you". It should be our aim to drive people in the right direction, if only ever so slightly. That is what will matter in 20 years.
I can understand why they hate Glenn Greenwald because Glenn actually calls out the left on various things.
The only crazy thing about Glenn is that he has Bolsonaro Derangement Syndrome.
Meanwhile Jesse Singal has towed the line on all of their most major leftist narratives. Guess it is not enough huh?
Nothing is ever enough. The existing culture is ALWAYS oppressive.

Can't cross the Transriarchy without paying the price.
Not quite as strange as his Sam Harris Derangement Syndrome.
But of course, we all have our blind spots.
Only complete obedience will suffice.
Meanwhile Sam Harris still has massive Trump Derangement Syndrome.
What a clown world.

Even ignoring the TDS, Sam Harris is a proud globalist and he says this himself.
He is incompatible at a fundamental level in terms of what most of us here stand for.
There is no value trying to play nicely with a deranged globalist.
Glenn Greenwald is not wrong about Sam Harris.
