The media is prepping the undocumented tour of the capitol as some big threat to democracy.
I've heard individuals calling the protestors terrorists, terrorists are people you show no pity and execute without a trail.
They did something similar with Trump supporters=nazis to justify violence, silencing and discriminating basically anyone right of center.
How do you guys see this play out and what do center left average people think of all of this?
I suspect here you will find a lot more of us that can see something and separate opinions from facts. That's really been my problem with the normal populace for years. It's why I haven't posted on Reddit in two years now. It started for me with gaming discussion. The inarguable notion that, "X game is objectively good because of Y opinion. You can't argue this because it's objective and not based on opinion." I just had no interest in participating in a forum with such a prevailing mindset.
That mindset is everywhere. "That building behind you is on fire." -- fact. "This is a mostly peaceful protest." -- opinion. "Protestors made it inside the Capitol on January 6." -- fact. "This was a treasonous insurrection and was a threat to democracy." -- opinion Hell, my favorite is from the VP debate, where Harris said "Joe Biden will not ban fracking, that is a fact." That cannot be a fact. It's impossible as it's a prediction of the future.
What has my rant here said about it all? The average person has absolutely zero ability to separate opinion from fact, therefore when they are given an opinion that's presented as a fact, that's what they believe. How does it play out? Well, I think the rest of us are screwed at this point. I wish I had better answers and hopefully they come in time.
