So at my local comic book the back issues are selling so fast and the section is so crowded that they started to put a time limit on how long you can be there. I was reading an article talking about the rise in popularity with back issues and it reminded of an article last year about the rise of classic tv channels.
Shouldn’t that be a sign to modern day entertainment companies?
I’m 40 and have been buying Spider-Man and Superman (my favorite characters) all my life but not enjoying the newer stuff anymore. I’m thinking of just buying older stuff with Marvel/DC and buying Manga or independent companies like alterna.
The good news is there are so many classic marvel and DC comics. I’ve recently bought a bunch of old Conan and Avengers comics for instance. Also great Dark Horse Star Wars Old EU stuff.
But do you think entertainment companies see the popularity in older stuff?
All the major media companies know what they are making is hated and don't give a shit because they are at the front of the line for the money printer. Disney is getting massive bailouts while firing everyone. The Fed obviously isn't buying jobs from them, so what are they buying?
IF, and only IF, Disney EVER feels monitarily threatened, they'll change course. But that's a long way away. Kodak famously snuffed out digital cameras because why bother, and changed their ways only when on the block, Blockbuster laughed at mail ins and openly bragged about their late fees being only somewhat unfair, until the wallet got tight.
