I have never even tried a Starbucks coffee, and I live right near one. I'd sooner hit pretty much anything else for .. whatever the hell Starbuck's sells.
Hell, Raunchy Ronnie's has decent coffee now. Apparently it's the same coffee that A&W used to sell back when I was driving and there were no Tim's in places with fewer than 10K people - that was good coffee.
But mostly I just make my own coffee.
It seems that most people who like Starbucks go there for the dessert drinks they sell that are coffee based. So sure, if you want a coffee chocolate milkshake, pick up a macchiato or whatever. If you dislike coffee except when it is filled with milk and sugar, get a latte.
(And make sure you ask for some trivial change to the recipe so it seems like you have specific, refined tastes)
Their actual coffee isn't spit-out BAD - you'd drink it if you were handed it - but it is mediocre and overpriced, so don't bother trying it.
Its not designed for people to get their coffee fix. Its designed for people to get their sugar fix with caffeine in it because that's not a combo you can get elsewhere.
If you have a strong coffee addiction like a lot of people, it'll barely tickle your itch because of how bogged down the coffee itself is.
I've been drinking my coffee straight-up since I was 16. I've tried some of the fancy coffee drinks over the years, and can't say I really care for them. They're OK for a change, I guess (I didn't mind the International Coffee mixes they used to sell, for instance) but I don't go out of my way for it any more, beyond maybe making my own if I need to use up some whipped cream.
