The others have given a good explanation but it actually goes down much deeper than that as well. The start of GamerGate was a movement that unified multiple people of disparate ideologies together to take on what we thought was a corrupt institution.
What happened with KiA1 and the eventual split was the result of years upon years of a bit of ideological bickering within the movement and those who inhabited the first sub. It was also the failure for a lot of... "midwits" as someone I talked to on this community told us. You see, near the first few months of GG was this debate between whether just reforming "ethics in game journalism" and demanding gaming outlets to follow the SOPJ's code of ethics was enough, or if there was something pathological and ideological that was fueling their unethical behavior. A lot of these "midwit" types who thought they understand everything were extremely blue pilled, and held onto their leftist beliefs far more than they should've. You can tell a lot of who those blue pilled types are when Trump got elected.
There was a group of midwit very naive people who thought if you just got people to follow the SOPJ's code of ethics you could get journalists to stop being unethical and disingenuous pieces of shit would work.
However, those of us who are of the KIA2 persuasion, noticed that it wasn't JUST peope being ethical, it was a poisonous ideology that was fueling that ethical behavior. People were being unethical in the name of the ideology, to justify their behavior, and as long as a "greater good" was being accomplished on behalf of that ideology, anything done to get there was complete ok.
Journalists could not understand why defending Zoe Quinn and going after GG and writing libel about Matt was considered unethical behavior. To them, because the ideology that fueled these fuckers was social justice where WAMEN are in a higher victim class than a bunch of HUWITE STRAIGHT GAMERS it was perfectly fine to collude and defend the whore because it was these icky "gamers" that were going after her and driving her out of the industry.
This is why as GG got bigger KiA1 shifted from "these game journalists are being unethical" to all kinds of subjects and "woke" shit being thrown into the sub. Some leftists who still were blue pilled complained that this started diluting the purpose of the movement and that none of this stuff was relevant. The rest of us, however, knew that it was 100% relevant, because there was a greater evil that was fueling this dumb corporate and "grassroots" woke shit, and to ignore that is like concentrating on the symptoms of an infection and not addressing the damn infection itself.
I suspect the mods of KiA1 recognized this as well. They created that set of rules and that stupid fucking point system to as an elaborate excuse to both keep the admins happy and to filter out the things they don't like seeing. The nature of these rules filtered out a LOT of things. The shit that caused GG to happen has spread everywhere, just focusing it on the niche community of gaming and "nerd culture" just means you're ignoring the bigger problem.
So a lot of us just tolerated this bullshit for awhile, but then, in a gesture of odd benevolence, they held that vote, and a majority of the community voted to just let the community determine what should hit front page.
Then the equivalent of the 2020 elections happened with that vote. People who were red pilled and knew better about the sickness in this culture fucked off to KiA2, and because KiA2 was so small, it generally kept a low profile, but the beauty of that sub was because the actual mods themselves were more moderates/center-right, they allowed a broader array of topics to be posted, topics that not just focused on nerd culture, but the bigger problem of far left identity politics and its infiltration into corporations, media, education, etc. "Uncomfortable" topics like nationalism vs. globalism, "13/50", etc. could be freely discussed because the Eye of Sauron of the retard admins weren't focused on us.
However, after T_D got quarantined and they fucked off, the mods of KiA2 were smart enough to keep this place as a backup. It was inevitable we'd end up here because main is compromised and Reddit is run by retards who are just as bad as Twitter and Facebook.
Just remember, one of the only explicitly right-wing mods, Brimshae, resigned from KiA1 because of what happened over there. The rest of the mods would constantly overrule him over post decisions and I can't blame him for giving up.
I doubt it. Their problem is not so much that they are too left-wing, but that they are arrogant authoritarians. One of the most unpopular KiA1 mods was a Pizzagate believer who called people pedophiles for saying that it's BS.
Even within the KiA2 team, the mod most critical of authoritarian measures (e.g. shutting down or requiring approval before commenting) is also the most left-wing politically.
I think there are dimensions to people's views that people just tend to miss. Not even the libertarian/authoritarian split, at least politically. KiA's head mod voted for Governor Aleppo in 2016, which I think it madness.
I still talk to some of the good moderators on KiA1. And except for Shadi, almost all are conservative or center-right (I don't know about the new ones). The other left-wing moderator was Auron, who was removed because he protected the free speech rights of users.
As I said, it's very complicated. Don't judge people based on politics. You'll get burned.
Question mark?
Just because they say they're right leaning doesn't mean they are.
Unless they somehow saw the light in the last year, hardcore cucking for polygamy and trannies isn't in any way "right."
They generally don't say anything at all about their leanings. This is what I've gathered by talking to trustworthy people on the KiA2 mod team.
Let that just so happen to be the one guy on the left. As for trannies, a lot of Old Gamergaters were pro-tranny, myself included, until the more pathological aspects of the movement came more to the fore.
