Christ, I'm glad I'm old enough to have seen that show in its original run. Looked forward to it every week.
Best thing of all, it was one of the few shows that seemed to appeal to all ages; the music tended to be of my grandmother's generation, and the stars of my mom's, while the muppets themselves brought the kids in (well, kids old enough to stay up past 8 pm, anyway.)
Abuse of people or cultures, my ass. So the Swedish Chef is horrible because he makes fun of humans, but it's probably OK for him to chase non-humans around with knives, unless ohmahgerd, those non-humans win, is that it? So how is this not just plain "human worship"? Kind of like the sick headline I saw the other day: ("cougar makes threatening move toward jogger". Change cougar to nigger and jogger to white guy.)
Yeah, he was always the highlight of the show. When the laughter is basically the crew itself, you know it's comedy gold (Also see the Steve Martin episode.)
Oh, and when Peter Sellers told Kermit that "There used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed", I don't think he was joking.
I love how they are happy to make money from such “offensive” shows. Kind of reminds me of that Lovecraft thing.
