I really need to manage my expectations better, because the idea that someone wouldn't always have at least a few days of long lasting/non perishable food is pretty strange to me. Even by accident I would expect just a couple cans of something. I am constantly disappointed and surprised by how many people don't have the slightest amount of personal survival responsibilities whenever there are even relatively minor disasters like this.
It's crazy isn't it? I couldn't believe that on Monday morning the news has the "we're out of food and everything is closed" people. It's been about 24 hours at that point? You can't make it 24 hours?!
No one would ever call me a prepper because I'm not, but apparently I had a little foresight in that I realized what was coming and quietly made sure I had enough food to get through the week and a way to cook it. I didn't have as many issues as most as I kept electricity and water, but I may learn from others transgressions and buy a box of that "oh shit" food and some water to stick in a closet.
