I recently bought Rogue Legacy 2 because I liked the first one and saw this one just came out and had a few %s of discount at the last steam sale.
Gameplay wise it was "fine", nothing particularly stood out and I'm sure I would have had at least some fun with it had I kept it. However the flavor text and some design decisions were promoting lefty ideas which made it hard for me to fully immerse myself and enjoy the game.
I fully admit that I may be overly sensitive to this kind of thing but I would rather spend my gameplay time on something that doesn't try to sneak in a commie agenda, even "tongue in cheek".
It is also possible that at least some of the features were present in the first game and I just wasn't noticing them because 2013 as a different era.
The premise of the game is you are an adventurer looking to restore your family's kingdom and when you fail one of your children will replace you in the next run. Each child has randomly determined starting stats, abilities, and "quirks" that can include both benefits and drawbacks.
The first thing that stood out is your supposed "children" can have a variety of skin colors. This is pretty standard in terms of how random characters are usually made and only stands out because of the implications it has when you start with the original premise.
Second is one of the traits your characters can have is "Nature" which can state your character is homosexual thus promoting that degeneracy. I don't think it has any gameplay effect but why have it at all? Answer: virtue signaling and getting headpats from the pozzed gaming press.
Third is the flavor text on the castle upgrades had several digs at "the wealthy" or supporting "universal healthcare" which are completely anachronistic for a medieval-style theme.
And my last straw was the "Valkyrie" class which notes (paraphrased) "Thanks to gender equality men can also be valkyries!" They had absolutely on reason to choose valkyrie as the class name, they could have called it "Lancer" or "Spear User" or whatever but they had to use Valkyrie for virtue signaling purposes.
I noped out after that and got a refund.
The homosexuality thing was in the first game (good luck continuing your family line when you have an innate aversion to breeding, not that anyone thinks about these things logically.) But yeah, I was turned off getting the sequel too because they kept pushing the envelope. Glad to hear I'm not missing anything super special.
Damn, I didn’t even remember homosexual being a trait in the first game. I guess it was just so pointless that it never stood out to me.
