Which one?
University of Iowa is literal SJW ground zero. Before any of the east coast universities started praising Foucault, there was the Iowa Writers Workshop. The rest of Iowa refers to them as The People's Republic of Johnson County.
Iowa State University isn't as bad; they're no more or less woke than most other state universities. The thing about ISU is that it's an Ag & Engineering school. The engineering programs are widely acknowledged to be a shakedown operation that is way too open about accepting students and squeezing them for money.
University of Northern Iowa falls somewhere in the middle. Although if you like winning, UNI isn't bad; they're one of the bigger, better funded schools in the Missouri Valley Conference so they consistently beat the crap out of their opponents.
As for the state proper...
Des Moines is trending woke, while the Quad Cities increasingly resemble Chicago. Cedar Rapids... was finally recovering from the 2008 flood when the derecho blasted it again; the land is clearly cursed and I can't recommend people live there.
For what it's worth, I'm planning to leave the state in the next few years.
The University of Iowa is definitely a very, very far left institution. Biden got 71% of the vote in Johnson County. In four of the state house districts in that area (74, 77, 85, 86) the republicans didn't run a candidate at all.
