He got into power because the existing Liberal party fucked up beyond the pale, but the province didn't change its political leanings, it just sought a replacement of the exact same kind whose name was associated with a different party.
You are not forced to get the tracking app, in the same sense that in Nazi Germany you were not forced to fly the swastika flag. Totally your choice, you can totally choose not to do it, there's definitely no penalties for it, you for sure won't be put on any lists, no social pressures or legal pressures...
As for the appropriateness of the analogy, you seem like the type that if someone said "let sleeping dragons lie", you'd go "acktually, dragons don't exist, so letting them sleep or not is a moot point.". Yeah, DV is disproportionately women AGAINST men, not vice-versa, but the person giving the metaphor is a woman, and so naturally is speaking in the context of being a woman, not a man, because women, generally speaking, are not men. Not always, gotta CYA, but generally speaking.
