I would rather watch an expert in the field on a boring task, than a poseur on an interesting one. Give me a musical prodigy discussing 8-bit chiptunes over a drunken football meathead discussing Mozart. I'll take a real gamer playing Bejeweled over an imitation playing at Doom.

Honesty is the core of my own ideology. If these people are gamers, they should be gamers. To thine self be true. Tiny face-capture screen, big game screen, just the face captured, focus on the play, focus on improving your skills. If they want to be camwhores, segregate the two, put it into gaming when you game, and take off your pants and sit on the camera when you're feeling camwhorey. Be honest and true to both occupations, and to themselves.
