I think it's more because they see WuFlu as a moral crusade and following the edicts of the state as the greatest social good. And if you don't they see you as evil. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard from people I know IRL "because there's a PANDEMIC" to justify all sorts of totalitarianism.
Masks have been a boon for degenerates and criminals. They look normal among the crowd now. At the start of the pandemic, people were sticking up and robbing semis hauling food, supplies, etc. like it's the wild west. I was a bit worried because my grandfather is a truck driver working through this bullshit, but then I remembered he LOVES the second ammendment.
