That's the only reason the person keeps making them, because they get a kick out of making you reply.
If you stop, they will get bored and leave.

Just consider them to be playthings. Like a dog's toys, for chewing and throwing and kicking around just for the joy of chewing, throwing, and kicking stupid stuff around.
