It seems that a majority of Latinos in CA have voted against the racist Proposition 16, which would have granted preferential treatment in university admissions to blacks and Latinos.
Latinos, too, appear sharply divided. Prominent Latino nonprofit and civil rights organizations endorsed the affirmative action proposition even as all 14 of California’s majority-Latino counties voted it down.
Latinos make up more than half of San Bernardino County’s population, although significantly fewer turn out to vote. More residents there voted on the affirmative action proposition than for president, rejecting it by a margin of 28 percentage points. In rural Imperial County, in the southeastern corner of the state, 85 percent of the population is Latino. The voters there who gave Joseph R. Biden Jr. a nearly 27-point margin of victory went against the affirmative action measure by 16 percentage points.
The sooner people realize that these "nonprofit and civil rights organizations" are just a blob that all advocate for exactly the same thing, the better.
This is very good news, I do wonder what the psychology behind it is. Most people tend to vote for laws that would grant them an edge in life. I can only say I am happily surprised. I still wished they would vote Republican but baby steps.
It's more that many of those "Latinos" view themselves as white because of their heritage and correctly assume that they'll be thrown under the bus for it soon enough.
