That just pushes them to become more subtle and make sure they are never caught. They aren't going to stop wanting this, only find ways to get it while avoiding consequence.

There is a reason alcoholics are XX days sober, even decades later. Because they are never "free" only contained. And how many horror stories are about those relapsing turning into masterminds to hide it from their family?
