so obviously i've been going on alternative sites (as in alternative replacements for twitter, youtube, and reddit) more and more as the mainstream ones start getting more and more censorious and ban happy over political wrong think , but at the same time, jesus i wish the alternative sites (like bitchute and the like .) had some other things other than politics sometimes too (Not talking about here in case you are wondering since its a "subreddit" not a platform). i can understand why cause most people who are there are political right wingers that got kicked off the mainstream sites but mannn...
anyway just a small rant. .
Utterly agreed.
And also what all of the many other sites miss that made youtube great, is the ability to link into related material (before that whole system was censored).
Doesn't seem like many people have realized that making stuff indexed and findable is being disabled; you can hardly search by timeline anymore, everything is being memoryholed. Remember when youtube introduced random dating a few years ago so that if you did a search for something the latest upload was no longer the most relevant return? Just random shit in no particular order?
Make everything harder/impossible to find. Problem soled.
Those alternative sites just have to hope some more prominent non-political or apolitical talents start using their platforms if you want content other than politics.
However, I take it much like when random people see a funny stonetoss edited comic and share it around. They might not even know who stonetoss is, but you can take it to the bank there will be at least one person who sees that and pipes up with “dur u kno he nazi rite? R u nazi?” to browbeat them into lifelong repentance. If these other non-political creators move platforms, they have to be very choosy as to what site. They cannot just look at usage statistics or policies and choose something like BitChute, because you know their socials will be inundated with moral busybodies “reminding” them that those sites are filled with “far-right” or “far-right adjacent” people.
There's actually a ton of alternative sites, we just need a list for people to go through.
Yeah for sure. It's like at one point I kept seeing things about Parler. Well you see about the only person in politics I followed was Trump. I used Twitter as more of a news feed for non-political things. It's probably good I quit using that as it just became BLM propaganda stream, but I do still peruse Reddit occasionally and I still use Youtube a lot.
Pretty much never will see apolitical creators on any mass scale using these alternative platforms. Even with all the bitching about how crappy YouTube is as a platform. People still continue to use it without bothering to find out about alternatives.
The site's gone more downhill over the past decade and no amount of useless whining from creators will fix that.
