I'm honestly kind of curious as to how and why they went with all this dungeons and dragons sounding shit almost a century before tolkien popularized any of it.
Between the robes, capriotes, and burning crosses, pretty much everything about their whole aesthetic is bizarre. I cannot for the life of me understand how they arrived at these things, coming from their starting point of 'I hate niggers, whitey number 1'. The celtic cross, I understand. The blood drops, I understand. The rest of it? No fucking clue what they were smoking.
Around the turn of the 20th century, secret societies were all the rage, that's something like a cross between a frat and the freemasons. They all had weird titles and robes. Some of them are still around. The KKK was modeled in the same vein.
They were founded during the Reconstruction after the Civil War. A lot of their founding was also rebellion against the government and attempting to usurp and reclaim power they considered rightfully theirs.
Look at most organizations like that and the only unique thing about them is how open they were about it. Their shit is no more weird than all the weird shit surrounding the Elites in our country. Pizzagate being real or not, the stuff it revealed about those people's daily lives is equally bizarre and fantastical.
