Cruz is the current king of posturing. Every month he does or says something super based and desperately needed and then does zero follow through and it ends up just empty words.
Maybe if we had more than just him on our side in government he might have the spine when the going gets tough.
So then, you're admitting that his words are just bark and no bite, since it is very likely that nothing will be done to follow up on this. In other words, this thread's title is a complete delusion.
You can't have it both ways. Either he can do something about this, or he can't. If he can't, than he's issuing empty threats (and let's not focus on whether or not he means for these threats to be empty), and nothing will be done.
In which case, let's please stop with this cringey shit, where we all pretend this time they're going to jail or whatever.
I'm saying that one single senator by himself can't throw a CEO in jail or single-handedly regulate Big Tech, so to put all the Senate's inaction on Texas Ted in unfair & unreasonable. He can do something, but he can't do everything by himself.
I'll ask you- what specifically do you want Ted to do that he can do but isn't?
This isn't about what he can or can't do. This is about these stupid claims people keep making, like in your title (no offense!), about how consequences are just around the corner.
Then you ask them what's different this time around compared to the hundreds of empty threats and closed investigations, and they start making all kinds of excuses about the system. If you think he's a single senator by himself, what are you getting all excited for?
As for my list of people making stupid claims, I'm going to add Ted Cruz as well. Because he did make these bombastic claims in the past, and then crickets. So either he can actually do something (which, as much as I like Cruz, I seriously doubt), or he can't, in which case he should tone down his statements.
edit: upon rereading, I gotta say I think it's just my bitterness and frustration talking here. Cruz's recent grilling of Dorsey was great. he genuinely seems to want to make a change.
Good, now do something about it Cruz.
The behavior will continue until there are actual consequences imposed. Ideally consequences that involve a firing squad or a gallows.

He's just 1 senator, he can't do much on his own.
I'm aware. I also know what theater looks like and the sheer depth of Ted's attempts at things and how little has ever come of it after.
I believe he is trying, but what does it matter if nothing comes of it anyway?
Exactly, appearance counts for nothing.
What else does he have the power to do? He's 1 of 100 senators, he's not even the Senate Majority Leader...hell, he's the junior Senator for Texas.
