Intel was king when they came out with core-i architecture (nehalem) and eliminated the front side bus, plus massive OC potential. AMD had nothing to compete. Intel made some improvements on speed over the years, but they mostly focused on reduced power consumption. They got complacent, and AMD finally snuck up and stuck a dick in em.
