Anyone ever read it? If so what did you think? I recommend it. Found it at a library book sale over 10 years ago and finally got around to reading it. Saw the movie as a kid and loved it but surprised at how much the movies cuts out.

I have been a huge fan ever since I was little (although I didn't see 1 and 2 til I was a teen). I can watch those movies over and over and have all 7 on dvd and love them all. I even have the cartoon from the late 80s on dvd. If I could find a dvd of the short lived series I'd get that.

I remember one of those "80s movies are so offensive" from some moronic millenial or gen z complaining that Tackleberry was too aggressive which "in the times we live in" is problematic. She also didn't like the Blue Oyster joke or the fact that in the first movie guys are looking into the women showering.

Anyway, if you have seen them and somewhat liked them at least which one was your favorite and who was your favorite character?

My favorite is probably 4 which was the last one Guttenberg was in and my favorite characters would be Mahoney and Jones.

I guess you. can thank the PC Gamer article whining about it being “disturbingly heterosexual” or something like that. Always cracks me up how they can tell me certain things weren’t made for me but if a game/movie is attacked as heteronormative or not diverse we can’t say it simply wasn’t made for them. Too bad they didn’t say that to Heather Antos, Zoey Quinn, or Sarkisian.

Anyway, Sims has always been a guilty pleasure of mine so it looks like I’ll enjoy Inzoi

60

Which was the better multiplayer game between Ninja Turtles and X-Men?

47

If you have the time check out Nightmare Cafe. Show came out in 91 and as a kid I loved it but it only lasted 6 episodes. About a man and a woman who die and find themselves in an all night cafe run by a guy named Blackie played by Robert Englund and people who recently died or are around death go there for a possible second chance. All 6 episodes are on YouTube. Show always has had a special place for me for some reason. Check it out if you have time

Cena heel turn was cool but should’ve happened 12 to 15 years ago. Still not as big of a moment as Hogan’s turn or Austin at WM17. I am interested to see what happens on the road to mania. Cargill beating up Naomi was a swerve but I figured it wouldn’t be as cut and dry as Liv Morgan being the culprit. I think CM Punk will be champ sometime

18

Charlotte winning the women’s rumble didn’t surprise me but Jey Uso certainly did. I assumed it would be either Cena or Punk. After the rumble I rewatched the 90 Royal Rumble to satisfy my inner hulkamaniac.

80s through ruthless aggression will always be my favorite time as a fan but I still watch while understanding I’m no longer the target audience. Especially since I have no clue who the celebrities/musical guests are

Just saw this news today. I love the show and have those books on my list to read. It is funny because as a kid my grandmother loved this show and I thought it was sappy but now I happily watch and there are always some episodes on my DVR.

I'm assuming it will be the usual Netflix butchering of source material with the "white people bad" narrative.

I would guess they will do to Little House what they did to Anne of Green Gables. My sister was a big fan of those books and that Disney series in the 80s and she told me she tried to watch the Netflix adaptation but it was full of the usual current year crap and the showrunner actually said the book didn't have enough diversity so she felt the need to add racial, feminist, lgbt stuff.

I guess this adaptation will be like all the other current year period pieces.

Currently reading The Screwtape Letters (mom made me read it when I was 12, but always meant to read it again) and just finished Social Justice Fallacies by Thomas Sowell. He wrote it in 23 and most likely will be his last book considering his age.

My buddy and his wife have a small business selling comic books and vintage toys (mainly 70s - 90s) along with 80s memorabilia. I help them out and work small conventions with them in our area sometimes.

I got rid of my all my Disney Star Wars comics along with most of my comics from recent years since I mainly just read the older stuff now and added them to the comics we sale at our booth, and one time this girl who was dressed like Princess Leia and looked to be about 16 came to our booth and was looking over the Disney Star Wars comics and was raving about how excited she was for the Rey movie and how much she loved her character. I was polite and showed brought out some more comics for her to look at. She then asked me how I liked the sequels and I was very diplomatic and said that since I had been reading the EU since I was 12, I was really attached to that storyline so the sequels didn't do much for me.

She had never heard of the EU, but she thanked me and bought a massive stack of those comics. After she left my friend teased me and said he could see my eye twitching when she was praising Disney Star Wars.

I find it interesting how I can work a part time side business and understand that going after what the customers like or attacking/insulting customers is very bad for business. I could've told her exactly what I thought about what Disney has done to Star Wars and my beloved EU but I would've been out of a good chunk of money.

Also, check out small cons in your area if you ever have the chance. So much more fun than the large ones and you tend to have more actual hardcore fans. I used to want to go to the San Diego con but this vendor who had been going there for years said it used to cater to comic book readers but now it seems to cater normies and lefty politics.

Learned about it not too long ago and apparently the made for tv movie from early 90s is on YouTube so I’ll watch it tonight or tomorrow. It’s about a woman from a parallel earth and apparently Sliders was accused of ripping off the story. I loved Sliders by the way except for the ridiculous idea to make it the Cro-Mag show in later seasons. One of my favorite science fiction subgenres are multiverse/alternate history stories. It’s what got me to read up on quantum physics and multiverse theories.

But anyway I’m gonna check out Doorways as well as Space Above and Beyond (been on this kick of watching short lived shows lately).

54

One great thing about YouTube is that it has a lot of full runs of short lived shows and I found that it had Nightmare Cafe which only lasted like 6 episodes and debuted in 92. Kind of an anthology series where two deceased people in a diner helped recently departed souls. Loved it as an 11 year old and added it to my list to rewatch. I also liked the concept of Terra Nova (future humans moving back to the Jurassic Era due to pollution) but I think it could be better told in a book form. No Ordinary Family was another along with M.A.N.T.I.S and The Police Academy tv series (yes I’m an unashamed fan of those movies). I guess I’ll throw in the 02 Twilight Zone. Was better than the garbage that Peele did.

Hope everyone has a great day as we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. For those who aren’t Christian, enjoy the time off. I’ll be visiting family and then most likely playing Skyrim (modded of course) or Baldurs Gate 3 while working on the current book I’m reading (Invincible which is a Star Wars EU book).

Have a great day!

41

Anyone have a favorite Christmas album? For me it’s a tie between Nat King Cole and Sinatra.

99

Have a great day and enjoy. Nothing much planned for me outside the usual except playing modded Skyrim, watching the Cowboys, and reading.

For those outside the U.S., have a great day as well

16

Makes me want to get more old Star Trek books and comics

45

I’ve been told that there is a goldmine of French comics and sci-fi but not sure where to start. I have an omnibus of the one that Fifth Element was inspired by but that’s it. Any recommendations?

43

I went to the sports cards shop today (usually go about twice a month) and it is next to the comic book store which is great for me. After I got some cards I went to the comic book store and went to the back issue section. This store has a small Manga section and the rest is mostly back issues. As always it was myself and some other dudes going through long boxes. It is like that pretty much every time. A bunch of guys around my age (maybe the youngest being in their 30s) going through long boxes. There is another bigger comic shop near me (haven't been since they had day for women and "non-male genders") that had a big Manga and tabletop sections that had a number of young people and the main product for women is the Manga section.

Every time I'm at the comic book store I can't help but wonder if anyone at Disney Marvel has ever been to a comic book store. Heck, do any of the people in charge of DC/Marvel ever go to any shops. Can't help but chuckle every time I think about some executive saying "look at the overwhelming number of dudes buying comics, clearly that means we need to market to teenage girls". Reminds me of the line by Eric July that modern comics are made for 14 year old girls on Tumbler who don't read comics.

Kind of the same annoyance as when I see those rom-coms or Christmas rom-coms (I make sure to support the Great American Family channel) and you see how they churn out content that is aimed to what women enjoy and nobody is brought in to subvert, you never see an ugly dude in those movies either.

Oh well, like I said it is silly to get annoyed and at least I know where to get older stuff. Like the used bookstore nearby has a ton of old sci-fi and fantasy.

22

I was recommending U.B.I.K by Phillip K. Dick to someone and said it kind of reminded me of Inception. Made me wonder if anyone can think of any other stories like it.

73

It was one of the ones that I never got around to watching growing up in the 80s/90s, and I still have quite a few to go through (especially 80s rated R movies I wasn't allowed to watch but thankfully Tubi exists).

The movie was fine, but unfortunately I couldn't help but think about how Disney totally butchered the IP. I cancelled D-Plus in 21 but I heard about the Willow tv show and while watching the movie I couldn't help but say "you really couldn't come up with some sort of family friendly followup without injecting gay crap or current year nonsense into it". They constantly talk about diversity but it seems like the writer rooms are people with the exact same worldview off of a factory conveyer belt. Best example is an article I read when Star Trek Discovery had first started about how the writing room had to do a Star Trek boot camp because they didn't have any knowledge of the IP.

While trying to ignore the immature people wishing evil on those who voted for Trump or people who didn’t go to work today (had to remind a cousin that I went to work when Obama was elected despite not voting for him or in 2020 despite not liking the result) I just had to think that it’s interesting what happens when you don’t have a “deadly virus” causing endless mail in votes.

Also in a sane world the media would re-examine itself. Like I saw so many “actually the economy under Biden is amazing and under Trump it was actually Obama’s economy”. Guess people ignored it

37

Currently reading Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance and last night I finished Death’s End (final book of 3 Body Problem). That book series could’ve easily been cut down by hundreds of pages. Interesting idea but kind of hard to follow in a number of spots. I guess I wanted more aliens and space.

42

I work from home most days and the voting place is like 1.5 miles from me so I went and voted during lunch (lot more people than I thought would be there at that time). I’d say Trump will win but I thought he would win in 2020 (suspicious stuff aside of course). I have a friend who thinks it will be a 1984 style blowout for Trump, but I doubt that since demographic changes have made such a landslide nearly impossible. Another friend of mine thinks it would be poetic justice for Trump to win by a razor thin margin and have Dems/media screaming about a stolen election with their own protest at the capitol that the media downplays.

Anyway, what do y’all predict?

26

I read it when I was in the Air Force and then again like two years ago. Came to mind when my sister in law was telling me that my 12 year old niece was a big reader and was looking for something out of the ordinary to read

44

Recently found some Harry Turtledove (Guns of the South and that WW2 interrupted by alien attack series) but haven’t read them yet. I’ve always had an interest in the “what if” story which is why I loved the show Sliders(despite excessive Cro-Mags and downer ending) and love reading up on the multiverse theory.

I have an anthology of mystery stories called sideways in time where each story is a murder mystery that takes place in a parallel earth. My favorite story was a mystery that took place at the equivalent of the U.N. for parallel earth representatives. Another interesting one is The Pacific Mystery. I recently found a book that takes place in the 1950s in a world where the British won the revolutionary war.

Anyway, any recommendations?
