I know it’s a vague description but worth a try. I was telling my niece (12 years old and into manga/anime) about an anime I saw a while back about a single guy and one day an angelic type woman comes into his life to help him and of course they eventually fall in love. I know that is a vague description but I was hoping someone may remember
I recently did my usual trip to my local comic book store and of course went straight to the back issue section and bought some late 70s early 80s DC and Marvel. As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s I love the ads in comic books from that era because it is a trip down memory lane. Anyway, I saw some ads for the Atari 2600/7800 and in every ad there were a group of boys and usually one to three girls sprinkled in as well. I've seen these ads before but it reminded me of an old Itchy Bacca video where there was a TED Talk with some high level lady at Apple who talked about the importance of women in tech and how when she was growing up (she was born in the early to mid 70s) they didn't allow women to learn about computers (yes she actually said something like that) and that her dad made sure she got into them.
Everytime she said something following the usual feminist script in tech/gaming (I was excluded because I was a girl) he showed those ads showing girls playing video games and the funniest one was a commercial from 82 for one of the first Apple home computers where a woman is talking about how the Apple is making her life easier. To this day I would love to meet a woman who is legit into gaming or other nerdy stuff.
If I ever go to the San Diego Con, I'd love to attend one of these feminists panels and after their usual whining (because they would never have any women who actually enjoy video games in at their panel) I'd love to ask "have you ever considered that what you call toxic fandoms are really just people who push back against someone who has no interest in their hobby and is only there to infiltrate?".
Finally I love pointing out that at my comic book store it is so nice to see the modern comics collecting dust for the most part and I remember the same issues of America Chavez sitting there when they tried very hard to push her as the next big thing. The back issue section is always crowded to the point that they sometimes have to put a 30 minute time limit on how long you can shop there. They also have a lot of tabletop gaming and for all the talk of toxic fans, they have always been more than happy to explain to me about the game they are playing.
I’ve been watching Tubi/Crackle/pluto which are free streaming services which have a lot of ads but that’s fine. They have a massive library of older content (if you want to sell me a streaming service tell me about the older content) including older British shows which I love. Its funny because I grew up in the 80s and 90s and they will have some b movies from that era that either I haven’t seen or haven’t seen in a long time and it will be amazing compared to stuff coming out today because the men act like men and women are feminine and they tell jokes that are actually funny.
Anyone else ever come across an old b movie and find it very refreshing?
After church this morning I had to run by the grocery store and I passed by the book area and like a lot of grocery stores they had a good chunk dedicated to those trashy romance novels. Those have started to annoy me in the past few years due to how we have to hear the nonsense of "the male gaze" or "appealing to a male standard of beauty". Interesting how in any media marketed to women that the men are in great shape or how women can say that they have no interest in comic books but they want to see Superman because they think Cavill is hot. That is fine, but then it is ok for me to enjoy an attractive woman on the screen. After hitting puberty I've been guilty of seeing some bad movies simply because one of the leads was a hot woman and while I am somewhat ashamed to admit it, when I was in the Air Force I bought every Fiona Apple cd because I thought she was amazingly hot.
If a show like SNL had any guts they could do a skit where they are at a comic con panel where some rabid blue haired feminists are whining about the male gaze and someone just puts a bunch of those romance novels on the table in front of them.
Like I said, it is a blatant double standard but I don't see it going away anytime soon.
Just wanted to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving and for those who aren’t in America then enjoy your day. I’m at my parents so I’ll eat a lot, watch my favorite football team (Dallas Cowboys), and since I brought my gaming laptop I’ll play Skyrim for at least 8 hours tonight. Enjoy!
My parents moved down to my area a few years back for retirement and recently I found in their garage an old vhs I had used to record the sci-fi channel in the early 90s. I took it over a friend’s house who has a vcr and we watched it. Brought back good memories but also couldn’t help but he annoyed because it just highlighted the trend of buying out companies that cater to a specific fan base only to crap on that fan base in the name of “progress”
I’m getting the Xbox game pass on my laptop and since I’ve heard it described as Skyrim in space I’ll give it a chance since Skyrim is my favorite. I am worried due to the direction gaming has gone what will be injected in it
I live in Texas where we got some big wins but the rest of the country I’m confused. You have people who are upset about inflation and Biden policies but still voted for dems. He will keep pushing the climate cult agenda and I feel bad for those who live where winters get very cold. I truly hope heat isn’t an issue.
I really hope more states address mail in ballots. I guarantee if a democrat lost due to days of ballot drops after the election the media would be screeching. It just seems suspicious. Only people who have mobility issues or the elderly/military should use it. Otherwise I don’t get why votes can’t be counted by the end of Election Day. I love the convenience of early voting but if they made it one day I could take time to vote.
But anyway, life goes on but I’m honestly surprised. I thought red wave wasn’t going to happen but I didn’t expect this. Trans nonsense, climate cult, economic illiteracy, and politicians who care more about criminals than victims. I think abortion made some difference as well and the media but that’s always there. Should people on the right just move to red states? Or maybe we can ban lefties from moving to red states.
I remember a guy here in the Dallas Ft Worth area got mad because after he complained about conservative nut jobs in Texas (he moved from Illinois) I asked him why he moved here. He said he has a right to move where he wants and I said I’m not moving to Chicago and whining about the far left policies there so I don’t like people moving here and trying to change things
Can anyone recommend any anime relatively similar? Is it based on a manga? I think I saw they are doing a video game
As we get closer to Christmas it always gives me a chuckle to see the usual articles that bashed Hallmark movies for being too white, too straight, or "promoting the idea of a heteronormative reality" (yes they actually said that in one). Another stupid comment made was one writer complaining that the black people in the movie were too happy. Basically typical screeching over a Christmas movie with happy white people. Since Hallmark has bent the knee to lgbt activists (which I'm sure won't be enough for them) they have set their sights on Great American Family Channel which was started by the former CEO of Hallmark who said that he wanted family friendly faith based movies. I enjoy sappy Christian movies and I've recorded some of their stuff just to support them.
But the larger issue is that the CEO of this channel saw there was an audience of traditional minded Christian women who don't want to see certain things in their movies. Sounds like common sense. Same thing if you had a show that was immensely popular with gays and you decided to cater to that audience (I guess that Rupal Show?).
My biggest issue with a lot of modern entertainment is this notion of listening to people who don't even watch your product. I remember when that whole same sex commercial they took off Hallmark that started the controversy this lesbian activist actually said she doesn't watch the channel but still complained that it lacked diversity.
Imagine how the gaming world would be if at the very beginning a CEO told Anita Sarkessian or Zoe Quinn to go pound sand or if someone at Marvel comics asked these feminist writers what evidence they had that made them think there was a massive untapped market of female comic book readers. The She-Hulk writers seem like the perfect example of people who didn't care about "nerdy things" like a comic book and only cared when nerdy things became trendy then they infested the hobby.
I will say on the bright side the Great American Family Channel seems to be doing very well with the ratings. What a shock. Appeal to the people who actually like your product.
So for Christmas along with buying the usual gift cards for the family I like to get myself a book series. I also decided to buy my first Manga. With the Manga I decided to see if I can find a cheap copy of Fist of the Notth Star since I saw it a few months ago and love it. If I can’t find it I’ll get Robotech since it’s the first anime I ever was exposed to thanks to my older brother.
I’ve been debating between the Witcher or Elric books. I’ve been told since I like Conan and Ice and Fire books I’d love Elric but since Witcher is being butchered I kinda want to read it (similar reason why I bought Wheel of Times books when the show was announced). I eventually plan on getting the other book series in early spring but which should I buy first?
How often do y’all still use Reddit? If you don’t use it anymore or rarely use it what was the final straw? I used it pretty frequently up until the summer of love when it seemed every subreddit had to turn into a discussion on race with zero disagreements. Compound that with moderators being mad if someone said “this is a subreddit about babes all cards, why are we talking about this?” Of course covid nonsense started shortly after. I don’t get ont it very much anymore outside of the Skyrim subreddit and very rarely sports (the Dallas Cowboys and even Hockey subreddits went crazy).
Someone asked me if I ran a film what movies would as use as examples of what not to do. I said female Ghostbusters is the perfect example of placing agenda ahead of the story as well as ignoring what the audience actually wants. I know Last Jedi would be an example but there seems to be so many things wrong. What is it an example of? Any other movies you can think of?
So if the family actually takes Kanye to court couldn’t he just pull up the report showing the fentanyl in his system? Or get his own experts? I guess what I’m getting at is of it would get Chauvin a new trial. Or if it could. That was such a strange and extremely biased trial and I would’ve thought any judge worth their salt would’ve declared a mistrial.
I have a friend who to this day believes it was all set up to spark rioting.
But I was just curious. I personally would love to see Kanye crush that greedy family in court.
Who would you say is worse when it comes to crapping on the source material? Wheel of Time Showrunner or Rings of Power Showrunner
For the life of me I don’t understand the hate this book gets. Well I didn’t notice any hate til the weirdos infested sci-fi and you started seeing awards given to women who just whine about racism or patriarchy. I liked the movie for what it was but a faithful adaptation would be amazing. But at this point I wouldn’t want Hollywood anywhere near his works.
Do you think that if Wheel of Time had been made pre woke era then it could’ve reached the GOT early season popularity? Or close to it? I was going through my books and wondering what if someone who wasn’t a typical Hollywood douchebag had been the showrunner and no race swaps or changing the story to make the women look even stronger.
And speaking of GOT, that should be a prime example along with Westworld about what happens when you inject stuff like unnecessary girl power themes
If so can you recommend any other games with that kind of battle/fighting style?
I got it in the mail late last month but was busy so I finally finished it today and I have to say it’s pretty good and it’s good enough for me to want to read the next issue. I do like how he has a statement about respecting fans since Marvel and DC forgot what that meant and seem to be obsessed with diversity checklists.
Disney marvel as well hires morons who can’t be bothered to learn the source material. I know one of the writers or artists for Rippaverse was someone that worked for DC but left in disgust after the whole gay Superman stuff went down.
Comic book is good though. If you read comics I’d say give it a shot.
This may sound petty but I was at my local used book store this past weekend and in the sci-fi/fantasy section I saw some books by NK Jemison that had literally been collecting dust and it looked like they haven't been touched in a long time. The section has a ton of great older content so I wasn't surprised, but fair or not I compare NK Jemison with Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarekesian.
Women who enter a predominately male hobby and play the victim to get companies to bend the knee. There have always been female fans of sci-fi/fantasy but a true fan doesn't demand that the hobby suit them. I would imagine fantasy is more of an even split between male and female fans but I would definitely say more guys are into sci-fi simply due to the fact that it is a genre that is constantly attacked for being toxic. I used to keep up with the Hugos and various awards and would buy anthologies of the previous award winners in sci-fi/fantasy and sometimes horror.
I remember hearing about the whole sad puppies thing and thinking that the sci-fi community wouldn't stand for it. Boy was I wrong. And it still irritates me that Jemison won three straight Hugo when greats like Asimov, Clarke, or Heinlein didn't and she seems to be unable to actually talk about sci-fi and instead complain about racism. I remember getting into arguments in the youtube comments section on the Hugo awards ceremony when she won. I simply said you can't honestly tell me that she won based on merit. I was attacked for being racist and then I asked the person if she was a black woman that was an avid Trump supporter do you think she would've won? They didn't answer.
So anyway, I know it is petty but it made me happy to know that people in my local area have some taste.
I know I have a soft spot for military/military related movies being a veteran and coming from a military family so I may be biased but if y’all don’t mind an older movie check out The Best Years of our Lives. It came out in 1946 and is about 3 guys from the same town returning home after WW2 and picking up where they left off.
It may sound like a boring premise but I promise it’s an excellent movie. I know it’s currently available on Pluto TV.
As I've mentioned before my guilty pleasure with video games is The Sims. I recently had an article in my feed celebrating the fact that a recent survey showed that The Sims audience was 60% female. That doesn't surprise me, because I think a game like the Sims is a type of genre that would appeal to more women, but good grief am I sick and tired of the double standard!
The same old story. If women enjoy a game it is cause for celebration, but if men enjoy a game then they are evil and are keeping women out. Part of the reason I stopped getting gaming magazines (been reading them since the days of Nintendo Power) was because I got sick and tired of every other issue having some article about some poor woman who was told mean words when she was playing online or the millionth article about a female developer because we have to be constantly reminded there are women who are in the gaming business.
I will forever rue the day that the gaming industry took seriously the garbage that Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkisian spew out. I guess it was somewhat satisfying when Anita got upset about a race swapped Buffy reboot, because when it is something she likes it isn't ok to crap all over it.
Since I play sports games sometimes I’ll get emails from EA and I notice that they are including women’s teams and really pushing them in their FIFA game and NHL game. Has there been some massive rise in women playing sports games? I always figured those were the games with the highest male percentage. Also if these companies believe in “representation” so much why not make a FIFA game plan of all womens teams?
I know in the grand scheme of things it isn’t a huge deal but this was surprising
Nerdrotic and some other YouTubers believe that Disney will reboot the OT trilogy. Do you think they would be that stupid? Although from what I hear about the Obi-Wan series it sounds like they are pushing Leia to be the main Star so I guess I couldn’t put it past them.
Since it’s pretty normal now for the shill media to crap on the original or source material whenever reboots/remakes/adaptations are done it would be ridiculous to see them try to gaslight everyone by saying that the original OT was never that good or why Lucas was evil.
They have attacked Tolkien so nothing surprises me. It will hurt me to see the attacks on CS Lewis when Netflix craps on his work.
I'm currently going through Ray Bradbury Theater on Peacock (yea they got a lot of modern woke garbage but they do have a good library of older shows, and I get access to WWE Network) and I came across the Mars is Heaven adaptation. That is such a good short story and it was actually the very first Ray Bradbury story I ever read. It was in one of the first golden age Sci-Fi anthologies. Sci-Fi from that era is amazing. Now I want to get the Weird Science reprint with it. Anytime I see Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Weird Science, etc reprints I buy them up fast.
