I came across one of those articles from a shill website that have the "these movies from past decades that everyone loved are actually bad" theme. They criticized Gods Must Be Crazy for "glorifying colonialism". Made me want to rewatch since I haven't seen it as a kid and it was one of the movies we rented from blockbuster as a family and enjoyed (at least one Friday a month we would go to blockbuster and get pizza) we got a lot of laughs from the movie.

I found that the movie is on youtube and there are parts 2, 3, and 4 that I plan to watch eventually. I watched it and enjoyed it as much as I did before. Nice funny movie about a tribesman trying to get rid of the evil coca cola bottle by throwing it off the edge of the Earth.

Definitely worth a watch if y'all have the time. Hopefully those articles that serve to crap on what came before only to shill for the slop that is out today makes people go watch those movies they are attacking.

I came across an article where the lady who is in charge of the upcoming Supergirl movie said that the character is "too optimistic" and she wants something dark and gritty. I know it is beating a dead horse to ask "Then why don't you make your own stuff if you don't care to research and respect the source material", but this is just a small symptom of a massive problem.

I remember a normie friend calling me a nerdy snob because I refused to watch the Obi-Wan show due to the showrunner saying it was a priority to have Leia in it along with other stuff (I had already cancelled Disney) or I was told I was making a mountain out of a mole hill when I thought it was dumb in the 3rd season of Stranger Things to set up that guy and girl in the ice cream store to be a couple only for her to say she is a lesbian.

Like I said, this is all a symptom of a bigger issue but I do think it is a little sad that this is what I come to expect. Dark and gritty can be good every now and then, but would it kill modern entertainment to make something uplifting and hopeful? I know it may be sappy but I still enjoy watching old episodes of Leave it to Beaver or Little House and seeing the family unit celebrated.

The news made me laugh because I can only imagine how they will expand it and inject modern day nonsense like I’m sure they will do with Little House. I’m honestly surprised nobody has come up with a bingo game for current year tropes like evil white man, innocent black person harassed by cops, no romance unless it’s gay romance, period piece that looks like New York City, etc.

If so which ones? I remember watching my brothers play Police Quest 2, Space Quest 3, and Robin Hood. I’ve played the later police quest games and Space Quest along with some Kings Quest games. As a kid I always wanted to play Leisure Suit Larry since Babbages always had a warning label on it.

I’ll check out Steam and download a bunch in bulk. I was looking for a list and came across a “best of” list from PC Gamer and true to form they couldn’t shut up about politics. When discussing police quest they had to go off on a tangent about Floyd and policing being “racist”.

Also may try Willy Beamish again. Bothers me that I never beat it

I have some vacation time on Friday so I’ll take my PS4 to GameStop to trade in (since they sell sports cards now I’ll get some packs with store credit). Once I got a gaming laptop I was spending more and more time playing games on it to the point where I was only using my PS4 to watch streaming. Now that I have chrome cast I really don’t have a need for it anymore. I’m officially in the PC Master Race. I’ve always bought Sony since I was a senior in high school and my dad said if I got a PS1 he would buy my first game (terrible deal since he bought Riven).

My main reason for getting a gaming laptop was that I couldn’t get quest mods in PS4 Skyrim. Now, if I ever come across a PS2 I’d happily buy that again but I saw one at a game store with 5 games for 700. From now on it’s Steam for me. I think I may do a playthrough of old Sierra games as well

I remember a few months back there was a similar poll where women said video games were a turnoff. Just makes me laugh considering for over a decade they have been really pushing the idea that there are waves and waves of women who want to buy super hero comics or waves of women just dying to play video games that generally appeal to men.

I know with comic books there was a poll during the height of the MCU that showed that 50 percent of women liked the movies. Which anyone could see that the people going to the movies weren't reading the comics. Of course Gail Simone and her fridging nonsense caused comic book head to bend the knee to this nonsense instead of seeing who actually buys comics. As for gaming, I remember it being 2018 when I finally cancelled my Game Informer subscription when every issue was either something about women in gaming or some ridiculous lecture about toxicity or lack of diversity in gaming.

Don't forget the sob stories of women who cried about going into a comic book store and having to "be quizzed" by nerds (i.e. an unattractive man asked her what comics she liked). All this is why with rare exception I just watch stuff that was made 2014 and prior. Just with the 80s and 90s there is so much I didn't see growing up and I am catching up on (like I am currently watching the Sleepaway Camp movies on Tubi).

Sorry for the long message, but I found that poll to be pretty funny.

Since the planned convention in March was cancelled Matt Wilkins (great Star Wars EU YouTuber) and some others decided to do a fan meet up at the hotel in Richardson. I’m around 20 miles away so I’ll be there that Friday. If anyone is interested shoot me a message and I’ll give you the details. I know Ryan Kinel will be there too

Let’s say you won a contest and got to use the holodeck for a week. What would you do? I’d have a Skyrim adventure and then a Ringworld adventure, choose your own adventure type story, hard boiled detective story with a beautiful girl Friday, go visit that female hospital/castle from Monty Python’s Holy Grail for purely informational purposes, and then be a cop in a Martian Colony. Then if I have time be a crew member in a Star Trek like exploration or do a Sliders type adventure

28

I’m thinking about downloading Wing Commander since I really enjoyed it as a kid and I’ve always wanted to play the other parts. Also are there any games like wing commander that would be enjoyable?

32

I used to have hundreds of records but my parents got rid of them when I was in the Air Force (to be fair they did store my comic books and sports cards until I could get them). If I had the space and a record player I’d collect vinyl. Right now I have a few records I’ve found at yard sales, the biggest being a Jim Croce record and an Elvis gospel album

44

Doubt it’s true but I saw it was rumored. I guess in season 2 they may have Obi-Wan meet a young Lando and help him with his homework or have Luke and Leia meet and go on play dates as well as fight Vader 3 or 4 more times.

I’m joking but considering how Disney shills defended all the crap in the show that didn’t fit within Star Wars lore, I’m sure they would defend that. The show should be used as a lesson about the girl power obsession in entertainment. I remember there was an interview with the showrunner where she said that she was really trying to figure out how to include Leia. Also, so many people figured out Reva’s story from the beginning since woke storytelling is pretty predictable

Of course I’ll end this by recommending the EU book Kenobi by John Jackson Miller. Written in 08 and he understood the parameters of a story about Kenobi between 3 and 4. In the book he watches Luke from afar while getting reluctantly sucked into a fight between Tuskens and local farmers.

I know I remember bits and pieces from when I was a kid and my dad was watching it, but I never actually sat and watched it all the way through. Great movie, and I loved the scene with John Candy in the car jamming to Mess Around by Ray Charles as well as the ending. Don't think there is any John Candy movie I don't like. Also think I will make this a Thanksgiving week tradition since there aren't that many Thanksgiving themed movies.

Well they are right because J6 was over in a few hours but of course the media overhyped it to the moon and it’s doing the usual downplaying of these riots. I still don’t get the logic of being angry because immigration laws are enforced, but you have a good chunk of the population brainwashed into believing that we are on “stolen land” or that everyone has the right to be here.

Imagine if I had told a Comanche chief that he was on stolen land and they need to acknowledge the tribe they conquered.

Of course I’m seeing the “Jesus was a refugee” nonsense by “progressive Christians” who seem to think there is a scripture in the Bible that says “ye must conform to whatever leftists believe is popular”. I can show compassion but also say, you are not here legally and you don’t have a valid case for refugee asylum status so you have to go back.

Sorry for the rant. Just even more disgusted with the media and hoping this isnt another summer of love. Thankfully I’m in a part of Texas that doesn’t have rioting scumbags

Ran across an article about that controversial game Night Trap on the Sega cd and it reminded me of middle school when I got straight A’s (a rarity for me) because my parents said if I did I could get a gaming system so I picked the Sega cd since it was the newest thing. We get to the checkout and my dad sees on the box that it can’t run unless it’s connected to the Genesis. So we got that too. Sega cd flopped and I ended up playing the Genesis until I got a job in high school and got the PS1.

Any of y’all ever have a Sega cd, Neo geo, turbo Grafix, lynx, CD-I, etc?

So with the Wheel of Time in name only show being cancelled the usual suspects were out in force online calling book fans "toxic". This one fan of the show (who didn't read the books) asked me why I was happy about the show getting canceled and people losing their jobs. I told her that I was happy that it was cancelled because it was a major bastardization and didn't respect the source material. She couldn't understand that when you adapt a popular book series/comics the fans of the series have an expectation of a somewhat faithful adaptation at least. They act like we don't understand that you can't do a straight one for one adaptation.

I could've been more diplomatic but I told her that I have reached the point where I hate modern day adaptations because they attract normies like her who clap like a seal because the show craps all over the source material and adds the usual current year crap. She was never a fan to begin with. She called me a jerk.

Probably the easiest thing to do with an adaptation or period piece is to get the racial demographics correct. When they can't do that, then I know their priorities. I guess it just annoys me how they act like we don't understand that you have to streamline a large book series and that some changes have to be made due to the medium.

I'm honestly looking forward to the day when AI can just make a movie based on a command you give. I'll probably start with Moon is a Harsh Mistress or UBIK.

Rant aside, but why do y'all think that the entertainment industry seems to despise fans of the source material or make ridiculous changes and then use the "well we can't do a one for one adaptation" excuse?

Jimi Hendrix Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 Hank Williams Sr Elvis Led Zeppelin

Honorable Mention: Skynyrd or Robert Johnson

Checked all the usual shill sites and it has been cancelled. I say good. The tone of the sites was about how they are leaving fantasy fans high and dry and insisted that the 3rd season was getting good. Some comments from show fans attacked book fans for being critical of the show by using the stupid "the books are the books and the show is the show" argument.

They act like we don't understand that some changes need to be made when adapting a story from book to tv/movie. This showrunner made zero attempt to respect the source material that already had plenty of female empowerment to go with.

Maybe I'm petty but when they announced the cast of the show I knew it wouldn't be good. I guess the one benefit of race and gender swapping is that is shows the priorities of the people in charge.

So I saw that Peacock is doing a Friday the 13th prequel. Aside from the fact that prequels/remakes/reboots are being done to death and prequels are annoying since they seem to be a tool of the woke showrunner to show a stunning and brave woman was the true hero (Spock having a never mentioned foster sister in Discovery who was a big influence) I think you could do something interesting like maybe that area had some ancient Indian curse or something.

I’m assuming it will be the usual current year programming set in the past but looks like modern day NYC. Also I see Slashers get attacked by the usual Gen z or Millennial critics

While I’m at it check out the Friday the 13th show from late 80s/early 90s. All episodes are on YouTube. Have it on my list to binge since it’s been at least 15 years since I’ve seen it

54

I’d say Westworld and Stranger Things comes to mind because I remember reading in season three the original plan was for that man and woman at the ice cream place to get together but they decided to make her gay for no reason. In a show that’s an homage to the 80s a reformed jock with a nerdy girl is a perfect couple.

38

Wanted to see Rose get in while he was alive but hope he gets voted in but I’m knot sure how the veteran committee will treat him. I think Shoeless Joe definitely gets in.

63

For me I think Wheel of Time would be a great Skyrim type of open world game.

Ringworld

Number of the Beast by Heinlein

Still haven’t read Elric yet but it sounds like it would make a good game.

And out of left field…..UBIK by PkD

71

Currently reading a book called Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the 60s by Tom O ‘Neil. The book that I just finished was Flowers in the Attic.

18

Was always aware of it but never watched it til last night. Very interesting premise. It actually was inspired by an 80s Twilight Zone episode called Special Service where a guy learns that his life is a tv show.

What did y’all think of Truman Show? Also, shameless plug again for 80s TZ. Original is my favorite but I also love the 80s version and have a soft spot for it since my parents used to watch it and I’d watch along. All the episodes are on YouTube.

45

What are your top 3 all time side scroller best em up games/franchises? Also, has anyone made any new ones in a retro style?

  1. Streets of Rage (spent many hours playing that on my Genesis)

  2. Double Dragon

  3. X-Men 2 for PC (obscure choice but it was cool because they had different X-men to pick).

Honorable mention to the game within a game from the Warriors PS2 video game

31

I thought night 1 was better but it was cool to see Joe Henry. I knew he wasn’t beating Orton. I respect Cena but was never a big fan of his after ruthless aggression era. 80s through ruthless aggression is my favorite time and I guess I’m old and prefer the guys I grew up with but still watch wrestling. I’m curious to see what Cena does now. Was surprised to see Io Sky retain and I imagine Bayley will probably turn heel. Double swerve with Heyman on night one was great. Should’ve been Rock interfering instead of that rapper I don’t know
