I was watching The Brave Little Toaster for the first time in years, and was surprised to see John Lasseter's name show up in the opening credits. I had completely forgotten he was involved in that movie.
That made me think of all that was unjustly done to him, which forced him out of Pixar, and it occurred to me: Pixar movies, Inside Out notwithstanding, have gotten significantly worse after his ousting.
You could also say it started when Disney bought Pixar outright in the mid-2000s, which is fair, given what we know about Disney now. Hell, it probably led to Lasseter's false accusations years later.
Anyway, just some thoughts springing from ignorance of the whole situation. You guys taught me to be skeptical of any such accusations, unless the guy in question is already known to be an asshole, which I have no evidence Lasseter is.
Got into an argument with someone over whether a character is "non-binary."
The character's name is Zoe Hange, from Attack On Titan.
According to this other guy, in the manga in Japanese, for some reason Zoe's sex is apparently never specified, thus this guy insists on referring to her with they/them crap--he also uses this as justification for that whole Yamato thing. "See? Other series do this. Get educated."
The anime, however, explicitly makes Zoe female, and voiced by women in both Japanese and English--were she non-binary, she likely would have been voiced in English by someone who claims to be such, like Michelle Rojas or Marianne Miller (now calling herself Marin Miller), but instead she is dubbed by Jessica Calvello, who is a normal woman.
Yet this guy only refers to Zoe Hange as "they" and crap like that.
I am not into Attack On Titan. Not my thing. But unlike One Piece's Yamato, I can't find word from the original creator on this, and I don't trust sites like TV Tropes to tell me the truth here. Thus, I turn to you.
If the mods feel the need to remove this, I will understand. I'm just not sure who else I could ask this.
I'll keep this as spoiler-free as I can, but it really is a great game, I've cleared it. Anyway...
It all comes down to the Magypsies. They're aliens that look like drag queens...Mother games are weird.
You change the name, it's censorship.
You leave the name, Twitter explodes about an "anti-Romani slur."
You leave the sprites alone, it's anti-tranny stereotypes.
You change the sprites, it's LGBT erasure.
Nintendo's in a bind. So they just don't release it, because dealing with the "give us Mother 3" crowd is better than dealing with the SJW Twitter mob.
