I am always trying to figure out better ways to keep archive stuff. Twitter is really hard. I have been trying to find an answer for it. I've had a lot of help, so I thought I would show you what I mean.
Archive
Here is a post by Voultar. He is telling people someone ransacked his lab. Others are saying his shelves collapsed. He is a retro engineer of some repute so it's an interesting look.
https://x.com/Voultar/status/1791882321731228093
Here is an archive of that post. Notice how it's a single post in a thread with no comments.
Here is a thread reader look at it. I pay $3 a month to do this. Notice how it's just the posts from the thread. No comments.
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1791882321731228093.html
Here is an archive of the post on thread reader
This is the post on nitter. I have to keep finding a new one to get it to work.
https://nitter.poast.org/Voultar/status/1791882321731228093
And then the nitter archive. I need to edit the link to get what I want.
Here is the ghost archive. Yeah, if this is real, we have a winner. I have had to edit it slightly to get it archived, but it worked.
I don't think people realize this happens. Architecture and how it is designed let's the person the street know what is what and the people in those areas. To see these ideas in shape, you need to find a display or interactive themed event that talks about it. Norman Bel Geddes did that.
Norman Bel Geddes
An article and bit of conversation about the designer. He created an entire experience with rides to describe the cities of the future. His designs are used even today
A quote from Bel Geddes
And a disagreement with his work.
A nice article about the design plans
This is why architecture is so big. Most of the time the ideas are artsy, and cool to look at or experience.
Architecture
A great design to make the room look light and happy. Just happy to find regular architecture articles again.
White building with all the stupid architect stuff added in
PassiveHaus cement house
Big wooden facade for a modern home
A brickyard retreat
Tropical rounded HQ in Brazil
New Urban Center in Bergen Norway
The insane building with honeycombed steps next to Hudson River are being opened again. This time with nets to stop people from jumping
A nice guest house
A honeycomb apartment complex in Germany
An open coastal California house with wood and big windows
An open cement house
Layered cement house in Barcelona
An artsy area with mirrors on the ceiling to make it look even bigger. Rounded everything. It looks like a black and white artsy TARDIS
A building using older techniques. I've posted about it before
A building with pillars that look like wings
A wooden fence style house
A simple but well organized house
Check out this open cement office
Orange cloth material slung by steel pipes.
A house that looks nice, but is probably terrible to live in.
The Bocha House. It's a nice breezy open area that looks like it should be in Argentina
A cool hanging courtyard
A compact house in a city
Service stations in a park
Arch: Different Feels
This stadium area feels different depending on where you are.
A black and white building that sticks out in a forest
Another building that feels different depending on where you are.
Most of the time I end up feeling like I'm looking at a videogame when designing for architecture. The design programs look like level editors so it's not hard to fall into those thoughts.
However, you can see a single country showing their culture once you can group them together.
Arch: Japan
A small but open home in Japan
Another interesting Japanese home
A slide able office. The office slides away for an open room to appear. Just as dumb and weird as you think.
This is why you find so much propaganda about architecture. It's not the artistry, it's the control.
Arch: Tech Propaganda
New methods to deal with earthquakes have the house pushed up by air. The problem is that the promotion of it says magnets with a bad picture.
Make urban living sustainable for nature, to stop global warming.
A protest against centrally controlled cities. The images were made using AI
Houses are shrinking in size. The 400 foot house is becoming popular.
SJWs come for architecture. Especially hard because I know black run architecture firms that are doing great. This will halt their ability to do work, not help it.
They get into debates about what materials to use.
_TP: Materials
Houses built of popcorn
Carbon Capturing Japanese house
Hurricane resistant house parts are being manufactured in southern Florida right now.
An argument for glass houses
RAAC housing turned out to use faulty cement in their lower income buildings. Now home owners are left with bad homes.
Then the debates are how to build them. The big controlling types are promoting 3D printing.
_TP: 3D Printed
3D Prefabricated homes
Trudeau pushes 3D printed homes to fix housing problems.
With $150,000 you can own a 3D Printed home. This is so cheap even paupers could buy it right?
Then we have modular design, which will work way better with AI designs.
Arch: Modular Design
An argument for modulars design. Modular means they have a bunch of basic parts and can change the building as needed.
Can modular design save the day? I bet it can be designed pretty easily with AI
A company that makes modular housing
This is a really cool house that can be changed around as needed with a courtyard in the middle.
Here's a fully modular building that can be changed as needed.
$300,000 micro factories build custom design homes. If it's the same materials being placed in different places, that makes it modular.
A big propaganda push for Modular Design
Companies are preparing to make modular homes and buildings
Modular homes seem to be from the same ideas as prefab homes, which have been around for a long time.
_TH: Prefab
Tour of a prefab home factory
Sears had homes to order for decades in the early 20th century. Many of these homes still exist. Every single part of the building was sent to you. Websites keep databases on where these homes still are.
Prefabs became very popular right after world war II in England. Housing has been destroyed and needed to be replaced quickly.
Here's a rebuilt kit house.
Tiny Homes seem like an answer
Arch: Tiny Homes
Sherpa Tiny Houses are small but friendly. I love how they manipulate the angles of the photos to make it feel better.
A tent home that can be expanded when you arrive
Mi Casita
Recessed lighting helps this Tiny Home stand out. It's $150,000
This tiny home expands to the size of a normal one.
Until you see the villages.
_TH: Villages
A tiny home village.
Kelowa has a tiny home village
Tampa opens up a homeless tiny home village
San Francisco residents are tired of paying for tiny home towns for homeless
Oregon promotes tiny home villages
And especially how anyone is treated based on how they acquired the tiny home, or it's village.
_TH: Living in the Woods
This couple bought a tiny home in the middle of the woods for $65,000. They are trendy folks.
Homeless man builds his own home on street
This homeless man built a tiny home and then got in trouble for not being up to code
Homeless encampments are appearing everywhere. They want to be left alone, so they make homes in places like a deep swamp.
You will note it's not the home, it's the control for it that is the stickler. They want to control the homeless and use them as a bully wick for power.
This is why Amazon selling the prefab tiny homes is an interesting thought.
_TH: Amazon Tiny Homes
Amazon is selling $20,000 manufactured homes.
$27,000 homes with rooms from Amazon
$10,000 tiny home with second floor
The truth is many of these made to order homes are nothing like a full home. It's just a shell and needs stuff like plumbing added on.
This could be an answer to the more destitute who want a place to call home. It could also be a large game of who gets control over a large part of a suburban area.
Milan show
Milan has an art display show. This is experiences and indoor architecture along with regular art. It's all about the design and thought of things, not their usefulness. I honestly didn't know it existed until I started seeing these links. I've been in theater and artsy stuff for decades, but never knew. It's fascinating to look at.

Evermore is Gone
Imagine a place where you did real life quests, sung in a bar, and met actors who were characters in a continuous story. That was Evermore park. It was inspiration for my job, and one of the few Theme Parks that was known in the Pacific Northwest. It has been declared over
There appears to be two parts to this story. One, the person who owned the land had no idea how to run it and wants to build something he understands. Two, the people who did know how to run it were caught up in their own SJW hug box they couldn't see outside of their own problems.
The creator of Evermore also created the Void VR experience company. They did well, but had terrible financial planning. The company has gone into different hands since then, but the original idea is great. Players wear VR gear and walk through actual hallways with props. Everything feels like what is being seen through the visor. It's a genius thing, and way ahead of it's time. They even had a location at Disney world

AEI
An Overview by Kevin Williams. The article drops a lot of names, but not a lot of pictures. So I am listing a few companies to cover that. The big news is that there are very few arcade Cab style games, and the arenas are getting standardized to survive the incoming waves and losses.
Another article by Kevin Williams that covers the AEI show at a different angle. This time it's about XR and competitive socializing.

First, XBox may be moving to a more 3rd party company. This has meant lots of publicity on being 3rd party is winning.
Xbox and Exclusives
Peter Moore doesn't think consoles should be a thing anymore. He should know, he killed the Dreamcast and led XBox. At the moment he leads Unity. The guy who looks like Satan should totally be believed.
Phil Spencer speculates about exclusives actually being needed anymore. He even wants Epic on Xbox
Some publishers and designers don't feel like making games for XBOX anymore. It's an attempt to create controversy.
It reminds me of a joke from Kung Pao
Then we see the analysts claiming victory.
Detecting a paid off Analyst
Sean Malstrom is a fairly well known blogger who predicted the Wii and DS selling well. This series of articles is looking at a single analyst and how he is promoting an idea paid for by Microsoft and Sony. It starts with looking at an analyst try to play with statistics to get his own conclusions. Direct comparisons are not given.
Then he shows that this analyst is being given a lot of press in articles. The analyst is compared to Michael Pachter who was paid to say things for Sony and Microsoft back in the day.
This one is a bit ranty, but it asks why bad ideas are being promoted. Especially since there is an obvious winner to compare to.
The analyst says some big things like Console Wars don't exist anymore. Companies like Sony and Nintendo should put their games on Xbox and PC. Also Microsoft is winning, losers. Malstrom points out Microsoft owns news sites, and likely this guy.
I could also post all of the articles from Sony looking at similar things, and articles from 2 months ago that cover this subject, but that's a lot of reading. Here are some samples.
Sony Samples

Could the Xbox become the next Dreamcast
I don't have a state of Sony this month source list by the way. Beyond the Helldiver's fiasco there isn't much to talk about. Either the PS6 is coming out soon, or the PlayStation in general is exiting first party status.
The analysts and articles all say this is the right thing to do.

"Those then, who resist a confirmation of public order, are the true Artificers of monarchy—not that this is the intention of the generality of them. Yet it would not be difficult to lay the finger upon some of their party who may justly be suspected. When a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, having the advantage of military habits—despotic in his ordinary demeanour—known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty—when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity—to join in the cry of danger to liberty—to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion—to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day—It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may 'ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.'"

The term means projections, actors, and interactive programs that let a guest become part of the experience, instead of passively viewing it. Here is an interview explaining the idea. Lots of buzzwords, but some good ideas.
Arcades have something for this called Immersive Gaming Rooms. I tried to build one for a class for my masters, but could only get one wall to work. It was a headache.

Quest 3 is more powerful than expected. It can mimic a low level gaming rig.
But it's sales are not doing Switch or PlayStation style numbers. Mark Zuckerberg has been talking to other companies about releasing headgear without as much internal investment by Meta.

Which leaves us to the Apple Vision Pro. This is expected to bring an upper middle class treatment for VR to continue.
This article talks about the popularity of the Quest series and how the Vision Pro will change the use of XR devices to much more expensive upper middle class workers. Personally I think it doesn't matter, because you need a good use for either and neither company really does that.
It is a popular idea with people lining up to help it move forward.
NVidia Omniverse now available on Vision Pro
By this Wired review it's more tech than actual experience.
Review of the Vision Pro by Wired. It's nice, but has problems and doesn't work very well. They sold tech, not an experience
VR as a home use just has a lot of problems with no real answers. The hype for it seems to be based on videogame console sales, but nothing is reaching those heights.
However the out of home market seems to be finding ways to use it. First off, it's not VR, it's mixed reality or MR. A wall has a projector, with sensors watching your movements. Headgear can be involved, but is not necessary.
Themed Experiences do this all the time with companies like Meow Wolf.
Area 15 by Meow Wolf is coming to Orlando.

Companies are trying to find a way to make money off of XR in the public space
It really does look like the out of home experience is more likely to make enough than the in home experience. The problem is this takes away from the aim of the companies for the home use VR. They want VR to replace your work desk and home theater. If entertainment is pointing away from that, their take over of those household areas does not win.
There are arguments that the stay at home method will take over.
XR and education, an argument for more
Arcade experience via VR
There was a fairly open secret that XR was ring funded for military use, but now it has problems.
Blue Wave uses of XR equipment may be a new open spot for attack. Blue Wave is the equipment that works within the military to follow each member. Tech heads have wanted to have a full UI for servicemen for a long time. Attacks could make the equipment cause nausea.
VR not making it big at the home is not a new conversation either.
A two year old article about how VR hasn't risen to the heights expected. It's a good look at the problems VR is having, and the solutions being used.
Meanwhile movie theaters are getting VR chairs set up for group viewing

VR is not making it to the home, but the ideas are working for themed experiences out of the home.

The classics are told with a bit of nostalgia. Look at how the PlayStation is given a narrative of dominance. They did sell more consoles, but no where near the amount claimed. But this is the narrative, and it must be told this way.
But it gets deeper as you realize that this nostalgia is big money. Museums are being made to tell stories about videogames.

Check out that videos on Atari. I saw a similar set up for the TI99 a few years ago and was blown away. The guy showing it owned a retro computing store, and knew tons of people making ports and physical parts for old computers.

That's a fan based company making toys for sale. The Atari 400 mini is especially cool to me because a friend is really into it. I got him a full sized XL once through my retro convention connections. He lost his 400 in a fire and still missed it.
If I taught videogame history I would include a class where students had to make games for old school consoles. Sure they start at QBASIC but Assembly, C, and C++ would be taught along with using level editors and stuff like SCRUMM. Let them slowly build up to the modern engine to see and understand the history.
There is so much Classic Indie work being done that it would be easy to set up and begin working.
