Where do bullets go when you do that? I can only imagine they don't make it into space and come back down sooner or later...has anyone ever been killed by a 'warning shot'? Do they slow down too much to be dangerous? I've always wondered this.
Unless they've been fire straight up. As in precisely straight up, which most people who shoot up don't do.Then it technically wouldn't kill someone if hit because of the lost energy due to gravity combined with the fact that bullets don't have that high of a terminal velocity.
That said, there have been reports of people killed as a result of "celebratory" shots. Which are pretty much the same thing, and are also illegal to do in most states of the US.
I'm pretty sure people have died because of warning shots. I don't have any sources, though.
There was an episode of CSI that tackled a situation where someone was killed by a bullet that was just fired into the air. They had to create a somewhat freaky constellation to make it plausible. OTOH freak accidents happen every day, so ...
Not a warning shot but a 4 year old kid in my are was killed several years ago when someone fired a .40 S&W pistol in the air on July 4th. Granted that’s not a warning shot but legally you’re responsible for every round fired in a public area and warning shots do nothing but waste ammo and endanger innocent bystanders so no it’s not a good idea to do the Biden special
